Frequently Asked Questions

Participation in the RocketHour AI CodeQuest 2025 is completely free for selected applicants!

Primary School students in Grades 5, 6, and 7, currently residing in South Africa.

No! The 'Learn' phase is designed for complete beginners. We'll teach you everything you need to know, including how to use AI tools for coding.

The online learning lessons (Step 1: Learn) occur during the July School Holidays. You can choose one of two weeks: 30 June - 4 July 2025 or 7 July - 11 July 2025. The project building phase (Step 2: Build) immediately follows your chosen learning week, with 5 days allocated for project submission.

Click any "SIGN UP FOR FREE" button on this page. This will take you to the application form. Your parents/guardians will need to help fill out a portion of the form, and applicants are asked to record a short (two-minute) video showcasing what they currently do on a computer and what they'd dream of building. We'll select the 100 most compelling applications based on creativity, enthusiasm, and potential - this is not a first-come, first-served process.

Applications close on Wednesday, 18 June 2025. We encourage early applications as only 100 participants will be selected.

You'll need a laptop or desktop computer with at least 4 GB RAM, a modern browser (Chrome or Edge), and stable internet (≥ 10 Mbps). No special software needs to be purchased; we'll guide you on any free tools required.

The AI CodeQuest is entirely online. You can participate from anywhere in South Africa, provided you have the necessary equipment (see "What equipment do I need?").

There are epic prizes worth over R80,000! The Winner receives an HP Victus gaming laptop plus three months of RocketHour tuition. The Runner-Up gets a Meta Quest 3S VR headset plus two months of RocketHour tuition. 10 Runner-Ups receive one free month of RocketHour and a gear pack, and all participants get 40% off their first month of RocketHour. See the "Prizes" section for more details!

There are five interactive one-hour online lessons, typically held at a fixed time each day for one week. Lessons are expert-led in small groups (maximum 7 students) to ensure everyone gets personal attention and support.

You'll learn how to build websites with the assistance of AI tools like GitHub Copilot, how to write effective prompts, use basic HTML & CSS for web structure and styling, create a product brief for your ideas, manage files, and understand the capabilities and limitations of AI in development.

You will independently build a website of your choice using the skills learned. For submission, you'll provide your final website project and three short (approx. two-minute) "VLOG" style progress videos documenting your creative journey and what you learned.

The project phase is designed for you to independently apply the skills you've gained during the learning phase. While direct assistance on your project code isn't provided, the learning phase will equip you with the foundational knowledge needed.

Winners will be announced DURING the National Online Showcase, which is scheduled for Thursday, 24 July 2025, at 7 PM. Be sure to attend this exciting finale to see the results live!

We'd love to help! Feel free to visit our contact form or get the Info Pack via WhatsApp using the button in the hero section.
